Kumagaya Rugby Stadium

Witness impressive plays and history being made from
the stands of the Kumagaya Rugby Stadium

The Kumagaya Rugby Stadium was built in 1991 as the central facility of the Kumagaya Sports & Culture Park. As the only stadium dedicated solely to rugby in the prefecture and one of only a few such stadiums in the entire nation, it has become the stage of many iconic matches, hosting tournaments such as the Japan Rugby Top League, the national university rugby championships as well as the national high school tournament for qualified high school teams every spring.

In 2016, a quarter of a century after its construction, renovation work began in preparation for the Rugby World Cup 2019™. In the summer of 2018, the stadium was reborn, becoming a stage worthy of hosting matches played at the top global level.

  • The touchline is only nine meters from the front of the main stand and eight meters from the back stand. The height difference from the pitch is minimal, allowing spectators to see the impact of lifting, in which a player is lifted up by his teammates during a lineout.

  • Private room seats where the match can be viewed in groups. This includes ten terrace seats, furniture, a TV and a closet. There are eight private rooms.

  • The concourses on the second floor inside the stands allow for the passage of mobile food stands (kitchen cars).

  • There are four changing rooms for the players. They are spacious rooms with lockers lined up in a circular arrangement, building up team spirit and unity. It is fully equipped with showers and ice baths. These facilities support all of the players’ needs.
